Tips on how to improve my role play experience with the games?

I'm aware of how little freedom we have inside the games, but is there something you do to make it fell more immersive? Or maybe to feel like you have more options of things to do?

I’ve found that just playing the games as they are, without trades or mystery gifts, is the easiest way to immerse yourself.

It helps to ignore the story and focus on becoming Champion. Funny enough, you don’t even have to ignore the story in ORAS since it still feels relatively natural and not intrusive.

Op here. I found out HGSS to be the most immersive so far. Not only the pokemon following you mechanic, but using the pokewalker is kind of cool. It really feels like I'm moving my pokemon around with me, checking from time to time if it have find an item or something.

But I would really prefer to keep the rp feeling inside the games only, so it can work with other gens as well.

I dont know about RPing or whatever, but I think Crystal is really immersive. I've actually been looking forward to doing the bug catching contest 3x a week, which is cool. I had fun trekking back to the well to get a slowpoke. Thats a fun game.

Right! Crystal is my second favorite for immersion purposes. It has a lot of side quests and things to check daily if you want, plus, during the game play you have a little bit more freedom to explore things.

I might buy the virtual version for my 3ds this week. Tho I don't have no one to trade with to complete the dex.

I do monotype runs. No I dont autistically pretend im a gym leader going on adventures, but it really forces you to overcome challenges, learn the strengths and weaknesses of your team, and can raise the stakes of battles

I agree, naming my pokemons make it feel really personal and not so forgettable, even if it's not a nuzlocke . It's sad that I'm really bad at naming and can sometimes get stuck for a couple of hours/days trying to find a cool name.

I'm really tempted to try a monotype run, more for the difficulty increase than for the typing thing, I really can't decide on which one to try.

Not that guy, but I do monotype find fairly often. On the whole they aren't that much harder than a normal run, aside from the occasional difficulty spike when you're up against a leader or elite 4 member that's your weakness. Even that depends on the type and the game though, since some regions have enough options where you can have team members of that type that mitigate the weaknesses.

Still quite a lot of fun though.

If you want to improve your experience in Pokemon role play, i might suggest reading the fanfiction's: Traveler by the Straight Elf; and Challenger by darkfire1220.

They're probably the most indirect way of improvement, but take notice their immersive writing styles that meld perfectly within the context of a realistic Pokemon world.

Not to mention the stories are fucking good.

I just noticed I read this completely wrong so i'm a fucking idiot, however giving those two stories a read may give you a broader perspective on the Pokemon games, since let's be honest - the story in all games are dog crap and extremely unrealistic.

Anything related to role play and immersion is welcome, my friend. I'll sure take a look on those stories, thanks a lot.

I've been thinking about writing my journeys down, just the way I picture things happening in my head, while I'm playing. This might make it more immersive, but I'm not sure I have the skills or patience to do it.

If you're playing Gen 4, forcefully change the season every three cities or so.
