>>38103328Because they're actually contextualized and executed better than the rest of the franchise. You get a clear picture of why someone like, say, Nanu, is the way he is, in contrast to the nonsense shit like "Cyrus didn't have friends so he's going to destroy all love in the universe" or "Lysandre hates poorfags" or "N's only problem is that he's too pure and perfect."
Nanu is a cop who was fed up with shitty practices by interpol and watching his partner die, so he now tends to Team Skull and lazes around because of his depression and self-hatred.
Lusamine became so obsessed with Ultra Space after the apparent death of her husband that it more or less replaced him as her object of attention; devolving into research on how to get him back drove her mad and she copes by essentially wanting to join the beasts as she believed he did.
Hau lives in the shadow of the kahuna, and with a missing father all he could do was try to find some other meaning, as in trying to be happy-go-lucky about everything and pushing his real feelings down as an excuse not to try harder in life.
It's all character related too, not stupid out of proportion shit like whatever messes Cyrus and Lysandre were. Characters running from their problems and seeking coping methods is inherently more realistic than some guy deciding to nuke the universe because he stubbed his toe as a baby, or whatever retarded shit they were doing with Ghetsis and Colress being 1:1 evil power hungry and mad scientist tropes.
Basically
>>38103234 they aren't super great but they're leagues ahead of whatever other shit the franchise has made by default.
