Maybe not make him the league but make him win other major events every once in a while AND add some continuity wouldn't hurt. I'm dissapointed that so many characters of the day just fucking die offscreen for all I know

Honestly the less the show focuses on 1on1 arena-style battles the better.

This is going to sound really dumb to most of you. But I always feel like Pokémon battles are the worst part of the anime. It’s difficult to be immersed in them when they are so different from the games and the result feels dictated by narrative necessity. I enjoy watching the show to be absorbed in the Pokémon world and not necessarily to watch mons fighting each other

I think part of the reason is that there's always a delay between when the trainer give the command and the Pokemon actually executing it. So either the Pokemon comes off as stupid for not being able to defend itself or the trainer comes off as pointless because the Pokemon are basically reacting on their own. That's why I think stories about becoming the champion don't work well within in the anime. I would much prefer a character based show where Pokemon work in symbiotic relationship with the people around them and the focus is on the characters and what they do. Almost like literally every other show in existence. Pokemon is already a mega brand oh, you don't have to bend over backwards to advertise them anymore. Let them be their own characters with their own personalities.

And in that regard it's the fucking Team Rocket that annoyed me the most, not battles.
In every episode you had a cool story about a Pokemon and its interaction with the world, and then in the middle of it you had 10 minutes of boring ass TR bullshit
