No thankfully. I use either the bog standard poké/great/ultra balls and dusk/quick depending on scenario. The only concession I make is catching shinies in Luxury balls.

Yes and no. At this point I don't mind shit just being in a Poké Ball thanks to tens of thousands of hours breeding over the years but I've shifted more to it since Gen 6.

Not exactly, but I do like to try using more unique balls for a pokemon I plan on using for a while. Sadly that's tricky for a lot of pokemon since most unique balls are about as good as plain Pokeballs.

It's been floating around for a while. >>38111325
You can get a lot of the starters in different kinds of balls, though. Island Scan made it so you can get almost any starter in a rareball, with the only exceptions being the Alolan ones. Even before then, the Friend Safari and the GameCube games let you get a good half or so of them in common balls.

Luxury Ball is the best ball for ~96% of all Pokemon. 10 of them are best in Beast Ball, and 1 of them is best in the Master Ball (not shiny). 19 are usually stuck in Cherish Ball, along with some shiny legends, but that ball is on par with Luxury anyway.

In order to avoid a slow descent into madness I limit myself to the cases where the ball looks like it was made for that certain Pokémon, like the Great Ball for Salamence or the Ultra Ball for the Abra line. Does anyone know any other example of this?

yeah, I started in XY like most of us and now when I replay my older games I always make sure to catch them in the right ball (at least the female) thus I won't have problems once I transfer them.
