>>38118038As someone who wants overworked encounters, I never really understood that point. If it was actually implemented properly, getting to a rare overworld mon is going to either involve working your way through a route or cave to a remote section where the pokemon actually spawns, or still dealing with a low chance of it spawning on the main route while it actually runs away from you or you're trying to avoid other mons that might be trying to approach.
There is a far greater potential for engagement there compared to simply having a pokemon be a 1% encounter. That makes something rare, but is ultimately nothing but tedium.
If the desire is to have rare encounters that are still a 'surprise' or can't simply be seen from the overworked, then the games have already given us a perfect solution in the form of SOS encounters. Then there can simply be a low chance of some of the more common pokemon on the route calling the rare one for help, thus still limiting it's availability.
There are a lot of solutions here to make it engaging. As it stands though, having a 1% chance of the pokemon either appearing in the overworked and standing still or appearing as an encounter in tall grass is ultimately the same, just rather than running back and forth in the grass you're running back and forth on the route connection. Neither is a fun way of hunting rare Pokemon.
