For a game about worldwide, all inclusive, all ages monster training I find it really dumb that we’re forced to be an 11 year old every fucking game.

Online battles are literally the same model with slightly different clothing fighting eachother.

Why can’t I have an online, Battle Revolution style avatar for online battles?

Are we doomed to view a bunch of cool trainer models each game as a reminder of what we cant play as?

The main flaw with having an avatar that's too old is that you're basically admitting to be special needs if you're playing as a 20+ year old who has never had a pokemon before.

Of course, that could be solved by giving the MC a setup like Hugh from BW2 has, making it so you had a pokemon before it was stolen by the evil team. That would allow a character of any age while justifying why you didn't currently have a mon, and it also offers a potential call to adventure and more reason to go after the evil team.

You could explain it pretty simply
The PC could have simply never had a desire to go on a journey or challenge the gym/league before until now
Could be that you synergize with a Pokemon well after getting it as a starter
Maybe after you get attacked or save the professor or whatever excuse you're given your Pokemon finds that it really likes being commanded in battle by you
Then the local professor says that you might consider taking on the league challenge as it's open to all ages
This gives you the excuse, no matter what age you might be, to head out on a journey
Continuing forward when you have no other reason to do so implies you enjoy battling and collecting yourself
You could easily just save and quit right after any point but completing the journey, going after the evil teams, hunting down the legendaries, it all implies you chose to do these things
Perfectly legitimate reason right there

Hell they could just make it so that the older protags were a casual trainer in a previous region and gave their old Pokemon away to local friends as the Pokemon wanted to stay home and want to start fresh with the local stuff.

The Pokemon world is full of people who work non-Pokemon related jobs, like salarymen and shop clerks, maybe the protagonist spent their days working and had no time to catch Pokemon.

Or maybe the protagonist was just a layabout who spent all day watching TV and reading comics, either is fine.

Optional MC could just save an important person to the plot, and get his starter from that person. My point is there are many forms to set a 20+ main character.

Why are you all acting like there needs to be reason to have a 20 year old MC? The whole every trainer starts their adventure at 10 meme is just a throwaway line from the fucking anime, not a single MC from the game has ever been 10.

The oldest MCs we've had were almost 18 fucking years old, it wouldn't be weird to have a 20 year old MC.

Harder to self inself when your character is half the size of the adults and the dialogue keeps going on about how great being a kid is and how adults are dumb. It wasn't an issue with sprite based games that kept dialogue to a minimum.

Alright anons, when did you start playing Pokemon? It was when you were a child, right? All of you have forgotten that this game is marketed not to you, but to kids. We’re never getting 20 year old protagonists, and I have no idea where the headcanon that Calem and Serena are 18 came from. They’re 15 at most. Why do we need a change in formula? There’s no point, GameFreak should spend their time on things like not making gameplay absolute shit.

Pokemon protagonists were getting older over time, and X and Y seem like they were made with appealing to people who played the original games as kids in mind. Including a bunch of Kanto shit for nostalgia points, making the jump to 3D so it feels "fresher", and giving these adult players some characters closer to their own age to insert as were all probably part of that.

PBR Custom Passes were great. Different builds, trainer classes, you could even write your own battle dialogue (for sending Pokemon out, calling them back, etc).
