Yep Dragon's nice resistances to a lot of the early game types helps.

Dragon is no longer what it used to be. It gets fucked hard by steel and fairy and just about any water type can carry an ice move. Dragon is actually bad, there's no reason to consider it as the "elite" type that is above the others, because it isn't. It has three weaknesses and only hits one type effectively, it's not special.

Since they added fairy, there's now a lot of mons they can stick in early areas that counter dragons quite well, so it's not as drastic that they have them available so soon.

I do agree that they should still be more rare or hard to get to, but having them available early isn't the issue there.

I leveled this bad boy on my first run through XY. And I didn't felt like I was on advantage or disadvantage. It was a completely normal run and a cool experience to go through, even considering the fact that this was the gen where Fairy Type was introduced
