Anyway, I hated SuMo soon as the datamine hit. Knew the game was going to be shit, played it, was shit, didn't bother with Ultra SuMo cause I didn't want an extra helping of shit for what? Two or three new Pokemon I'd never use.

im sorry it really was. It might just be growing up but i didn't enjoy it at all. The map was janky as fuck being 4 separate islands they all blended into each other. They removed gym and replaced them with very annoying totem battle that had no balance (either way too easy or had to be cheesed). The story didn't feel like going on an adventure, felt more like a tourist railed sightseeing tour. The evil team was almost as bad as team flair. Worst champion of all time. Riddled with pointless side games (surfing? photos?) And don't get me started on the ultra beasts, I know some people love them, but I personally think they are the worst thing pokemon has ever done. People complain every gen that "these don't look like pokemon" but ultra beast truly don't feel like they even fit into the series AT ALL. They look like reject yughi-ho cards.

My expectation for S/S have been drastically reduced thanks to SM

I realized that this was true while I was playing Moon but in my imo SM have by far the clumsiest handling of it because I was powerfully aware of it the entire time up until after Malie Garden

The reason it feels so much worse in SM was because every cutscene had that slow fade in to black and characters slowly walking and waving and such. BW did much of the same thing, but it was faster.
It's less an issue of design and more Game Freak being unable to optimize their shit.

...y'know, there's uh. there's a reason, said in game, why ultra beasts don't look like they fit into the pokemon world. that argument against their appearance is pretty much just shit you're scooping from your ass. instead of biased faulty objectivity comparing them to other games, stay subjective. it'll make you seem like less of someone sperging out for gettting nuggets instead of strips.

Because people are just now getting through USUM, a remake of the most unreplayable pokemon game. I didn't realise on first play just how sickening all the cutscenes were.

The signs were there the moment the datamine hit and everyone realised how barebones the actual game would be.
LITERALLY the only appeal of this shitfest are the characters and story (not that either are particularly good in general), the actual game is absolute trash. They really did not try at all. They managed to make a game even worse than XY.
I've never, NEVER felt like quitting a Pokémon game a single hour in, and honestly that's rare for other games too.
