>>38116999At the time, prior to SM, I really disliked X and Y.
I'll be blunt: the narrative is awful.
And before you say, "It doesn't matter, Pokemon isn't about the story, video games didn't even used to have stories," you're wrong. It does matter, and here's why.
1) Video games have stories now.
2) Because a story is included in this game, it is an irrevocable part of the final product, it is not to be measured separately or discounted from the game as a whole.
3) It matters even more so because we just came off of Generation 5, which gave us innovative and very narrative driven games. It was the time to refine and move forward with that, not take a step backward.
Furthermore, what I mean by the word narrative has more to do with just the basic premise and overarching plot of X/Y. I'm talking about how the game actually delivers its story.
Your friends in X/Y are awful. They bother you constantly. In BW2 people noticed that the journey feels almost like Hugh's. This game takes that up a notch. You can't do a thing without one of those ugly, annoying idiots bothering you.
It's like this phenomenon gets even worse with each successive generation, it started with Hugh, got worse here, and S/M are even more bad about it. Your friends in that game aren't completely insufferable but they're still annoying, and the unskippable cutscenes more than makes up for the rest.
But I digress, back on X/Y. Your friends suck. They bother you constantly. You get way too many gifts way too fast. Team Flare is a huge step down from Team Plasma. The 3D wasn't fully fleshed out yet, so you have a 3D model walking around in largely 2D spaces. This wouldn't be remedied until S/M. Also the EXP Share makes the game extremely easy.
