They really screwed up the starters this gen.
I picked Snivy the first time. I love grass types. I love snakes. But let's be honest, Serperior is bland and boring.
The thing about Emboar is actually kind of funny. I despised it for many years because GF fucked up with giving us a third Fire/Fighing type in a row which means 3 out of 5 Fire starters would get the fighting type back then.
But after all these years I'm of course not mad about that anymore and I have to say Emboars designs is actually top notch. A lot of character and I like the chinese theme a lot, it's so fitting.
Tepig is a overly cute starter well done and I still don't care a lot about Pignite, but very solid line.
Oshawott is a cool starter (really liked the "default sad face") which evolve into a GOAT second stage which then evolves into... a Pokémon that would be a intersting stand alone Pokémon or part of another line, but the transition from Dewott to Samuroot feels so off in my opinion. Also THIS should have had the secondary fighting type at the very least.
But Gen 5 designs are overall pretty good. Exact opposite of Gen 4. GOAT Starters but rest of the Dex overall pretty bad.
