Yeah you're screwed, Pokemon games are one the most faked DS games. Any top collector would go as far to look at the circuit board to make sure its real.

Don’t buy on eBay, you’ll usually get a bootleg copy. GameStop sells them overpriced, so I would go to any retro game stores or try your hand at a thrift shop or something.

I got a copy of Soulsilver when it came out, but the copy of Heartgold I got recently just came up with an error,message that prevented me from even getting to the title screen. A bit too burned out to try again from anywhere online, but those games are hard to find at a gamestop

you gotta bite the bullet and pay for it. You're better off trying local stores. Even if that means you won't be getting the best deal. If you want to try you can take a chance with making a deal on ebay. Might get lucky, I just bought Emerald on Ebay for 20 bucks and I'm positive it's legit based on the pictures. Just don't buy from Asia and make sure they have return policies.

They've gotten harder to get lately. I got a UAE version that was brand new and sealed last year for 40 bucks from ebay. Apparently the UAE version is identical to the NA version so I lucked out. Haven't too many of them lately though.

I just found this one. Seems legit so long as you don't mind not having the big box, try making an offer. No pokewalker but if you have one you'll be able to find out for sure.

The big thing to look for are if the photos are stock images or actually taken by the seller. Stock photos are always going to be fake. Also if they're selling multiple copies they're going to be fake. All the other things to look for are more just thing's you'll have to know from seeing a real cart. The ones in your image I'd say the silver copy is fake. The text is very fuzzy where it says nintendo and the pokemon company. Rule of thumb is that if you think one is fake then they're probably both fake.

As for finding a real one just go buy one from Gamestops website. If you get a fake you can return it within 30 days and they'll send you a new one. Continue the process until you get a real one.

When I bought my SS I had to look up how to tell the reals from the fakes, there are a few tells using the E for everyone text iirc, but the easiest way is to see the back of the cartridge under a light. The real ones should be dark red, almost black, and faintly see-through.

Last piece of advice: HGSS and Gen5 cartridges should be a dark translucent plastic instead of the normal grey. Most fakes will use the normal plastic.

No joke ask the seller if they can hold the cartridge up to the light and take a picture. If the cartridge isn't translucent, clear sign of a fake.

I didn't mean to imply that. I know DPPt didn't because they had the grey cart and I assumed that they were now like every other DS game at the time.

Either way, it's neat to see. That'd be cool if the Switch carts are similar, but it's such an unnecessary thing that it doesn't really matter.

Oh yeah it'd definitely be strictly because it looks cool and it would by no means disappoint me if they didn't use them for Gen 8, or any subsequent game for that matter. I'd likely be happy either way because I think Sword/Shield looks pretty good.
