However, Sony and Microsoft count on making that money back via licensing fees for software - console manufacturers get a hefty cut of the $60 retail price for games. For Sony this has worked out, and the PlayStation division is their most profitable by far, but for Microsoft I don't think they've ever managed to make a profit off the Xbox.
