Red's Team makes equal sense in both GSC and HGSS, I wish the other Player Characters did this sort of thing;

It's equally likely that the rest of the Pokemon he's caught are just in the PC Boxes and he preferred to use the team he has in GSC and HGSS during training. If you consider that there is some story tied to the Kanto Starters in Yellow and Red would develop a close friendship with Pikachu through yellow that just leaves the other three Pokemon.

Snorlax is one of the original game's Boss Pokemon, alongside Marowak, it's the only one he could've caught though so it'd make sense that contending with such a powerful Pokemon like Snorlax during his journey Red would want to use it. Espeon is a bit of a weird case because he couldn't have had it until after defeating the Elite Four since for whatever reason Gen 1 Pokemon can't evolve until Post-Game in Kanto, this would likely mean that there was off-screen friendship development between Red and Eevee/Espeon. Lapras is a bit more of a concrete case however, you obtain Lapras fairly late into the game usually, if you're doing the gyms in order Red gets Lapras after defeating Koga and is about to face Giovanni for the second time, Lapras' unusual Ice-Type, something Red wouldn't have encountered much if at all up to that point would prove to be critical at dealing with Giovanni's Ground-Type Pokemon alongside Blastoise and Venusaur, later on Red would use Lapras to surf to Cinnabar Island allowing him to develop his friendship with the Pokemon through the Seafoam Islands and the long voyage, Cinnabar Island would also help bolster that since it's predominantly Fire-Type Pokemon which Lapras alongside Blastoise dominate, finally returning to Viridian City and facing Giovanni and the Viridian Gym Lapras' Ice-Type would once again prove useful in dealing with the tough Ground-Type Pokemon.

I think overall it's not hard to see why Lapras and Snorlax work on Red's Team, Espeon might have a weaker reason by comparison hence why it might've been dropped.

I actually think Espeon can make sense. He was gifted an eevee, would develop a high friendship with it, and most likely espeon would be the result. Also, I like to think he would use a pasychic type

Red has Espeon because that's what the manga Eevee evolved into, and to avoid doubling up on types. Red has Lapras because they wanted him to have all g1 Pokémon.

gen 4 and 5 can't get any other starters
Gen 6 can get a Kanto starter and another kalos one from Shuna

The games are a fucking disaster keeping a proper canon. Technically, it just means Red, Green, and Blue aren't canon, along with FireRed and LeafGreen because of the events of GSC or HGSS, B2W2, and SM&USUM.

Also apparently all those games canonical can at some point also be false because of LGPE.

And before you at me saying "aNon, bUt LGPE iSn't A mAIn LiNe GaMe!!1"

It only makes sense for red to have all 3 starters, because he's the only one in a game where you can canonically get all three starters. It doesn't make sense for the others.

Yes, and? It means Red's as straight as a fiddle.
You can often tell a character's sexual orientation by the genders of the pokemon they have.
Same gender as trainer = Straight.
Opposite gender from trainer = Gay.
Mix = Bi

Please note that pokemon with lopsided ratios are generally excluded from this.

You lost me there.
Bulbasaur is the "correct" starter. That's why it's #1 in the pokedex. Plus a Grass type fits a mute like Red, while a Fire type fits a competitive tryhard like Blue.

In some games, trainer's pokemon are always the same gender as their trainer, except of course when they can't.
Bugsy is considered female as a running joke of being mistaken for female (look: adventures). Even Ash "mistaken" Bugsy, but as a bug, not female.

Yellow for all for all intents and purposes, was to cash in on the anime, no reason to make and sell it if the anime wasn't making them their daily billion yen. No need to explain how the game gives you the pokemon.

However Pokemon Adventures manga decides "hey, let's give Red his rival's starter pokemon's for no other reason than to nod to Yellow. But only for a said amount of time so the trio can participate in the XY chapters."

Red's team might soon find its true canon status depending on SwSh.
