>>38150572I think tweaking illusion's mechanics a bit would be enough:
>illusion can only be broken by a super effective attackBasically anything that isn't fairy, fighting or bug, even if it still hurts zoroark, will not break the illusion. For example if you attack zoroark disguised as gengar with surf, you'll have no reason not to believe it's a gengar, since their bulk is similar and the attack was neutral. This gives more freedom to play with neutral coverage mind games
>In team preview, zoroark's icon sprite will always appear as a different pokemon's icon sprite; the false sprite is chosen at random between all pokemonThis is meant to turn illusion into a gamble. Risky, but infinitely more fun than just having your opponent know you have a zoroark from the get go. Say you're playing OU, and zoroark in team preview appears as a rattata. The opponent can assume that's zoroark, or maybe it's an actual rattata and there's no zoroark in the team at all, or it is a rattata AND a zoroark, which happens to be the "garchomp" next to the rattata. However, if you get unlucky, you might get two landos in team preview, or an ubers mon, instantly breaking the ruse... if the opponent is paying attention.
I feel like if the illusion ability was like that zoroark wouldn't need another type or stat buffs. It's still a gimmick, but it now forces the mindgames it's supposed to force.
