Great for making background shots in the anime when QUALITY isn't a priority but even in the anime, when tangrowth is shown close up there's no additional detail. Granted it may be a pain to animate, but the pokemon anime isn't exactly known for its realistic and fluid animation.
While i'm on the topic, i agree with the other anon about seeing its underside being a bad decision too.
