How do you play Pokemon?

With all the cringe genwars and shitting on designs, why don't we just relax and talk about how you play Pokemon? Do you play competitively? Do you shiny hunt? Nuzlocke? Contests?

I'm kinda this wierd in between of not being casual but not competitive or shiny hunter. I like completing the games though finishing the dex, finding all items, getting all mythical, and events. I guess you could say I'm a completionist.

I go full autism mode and pretend I'm actually a kid on the first day of my pokemon journey whenever beginning a new game.
Then I proceed to get far too attached to my mons over the course of the game.

That's the only """rules""" I have. Don't give a fuck about completing the Pokedex. Just catch the cool mons I like (+ HM slaves in the older games). Also try to not overlevel my starter. That's all.Fuck contests, fuck shinys. Don't care about playing competitively either.

I play through the main game very casually, only using new mons from their region. I like playing RU on showdown, so I think I might try breeding in SS and do some wifi battles. I liked contests and pokestar when they were available, and otherwise I go through the battle facility for a bit. Might try some easier shiny hunting methods if they're available. I don't want to just inject something, but I also don't want to roll a dice 8000 times. Otherwise there's never really been too much to do afterwards, I think people really overhype up post game like it's this thing that matters when it's never been something that will keep you playing for more than like 3-5 more hours (unless you only want to breed and shit forever or something)

Playing through the story with my favorite pokemon available, i also enjoy some of the side activities like pokeathlon and pokemon amie even if they are just minor details. When finishing a game i can replay old ones with different teams

I like to play through the games using mons I haven't used much/ever, I collect battle ready mons but I only use them in the battle tree or whatever variant.
If I want to play against other players, I just use Showdown.

Depends. I mostly beat the game then hunt for legendaries/breed competitive mons. If i'm really enjoying it I might shiny hunt. I usually stop playing after about a month then move on and ocassionally return for battlespot.

This has happened at least two times in recent memory, and I don't know if it says something about the typical structure of Pokemon games dragging out long after the height of tension, or my shitty attention span that easily gets bored once there's nothing left to look forward to with my team composition anymore.

I smile whenever I see these threads.

I play the games and then try to explore and complete the after game with as few guides as possible. Failing that, I like to shiny hunt. Recently got my first shiny fug. I love these games.

Mostly OU but I'll dabble in lower tiers/AG/OMs when the mood strikes.
I used to do Nuzlockes but I'm bored of replaying in-game now.

I don't Nuzlocke, but I like to think I mix casual and competitive styles together. I breed Pokémon to have good genes and sets, but only the Pokémon I like. I also do a bit of shiny hunting when I like that particular shiny, instead of doing it for the challenge. I'm excited to continue training Pokémon, new and old.

I've been playing the same save file of diamond on and off since 2008. I fluctuate between catching Pokemon I think are cool, fighting the elite four so I can evolve Pokemon I think are cool, and grinding for battle points to get tms. I've got a copy of FireRed that I only play to get Pokemon to transfer to diamond, ditto for Sapphire and SoulSilver.

Play through the game normally, usually with a predetermined team that I collect the members for throughout the game. If I really like the game, I'll do all the post game stuff and do a little bit of shiny hunting. I started to get a living Dex on ORAS but I kind of stopped with that

First play is always my canonical journey.

I don't like the trend of starters anymore so I usually replace the starter with a level 5 edited, legal personal favorite. Try to catch every pokemon I can in each area before moving on, slowly filling my team with favorites and keeping them all equally leveled without resorting to grinding. Then after beating the E4 I enjoy completing the pokedex while picking out my 6 overall favorites and breeding perfect/shiny versions of them.

I've started doing that too, though I think your definition of legal and my definition are different things. Last run was a ultra moon with a beldum as my starter.
