Ghost was in the same boat. Super effective against Psychics, physical (meaning it would be better against psychics who tended to have lower defense and HP), etc. Unfortunately there were really no effective Ghost moves (Lick was always shit) and the only Ghost Pokémon that existed at the time was weak to Psychics, had poor Attack (massively special but attack would have been preferable to Ghosts in Gen 1) etc.
