There is no reason for it to not just be wild battles.
Not even the excuse of "think of the children". Children can be world champions, they can play the game casually and even if they couldn't, trying to funnel them into the main series with a game LESS like modern Pokémon than ever before is a failure laced folly because they're more likely to (rightly) just want more of what they already liked about Trash Go.
It's like saying you'll feed someone chicken noodle soup in an effort to funnel them into liking lentil and sausage soup. Maybe some will like both but it doesn't make any sense whatsoever to think the majority will like two entirely different things.
Especially when one of them is so fucking simple in comparison.
