For the longest time HGSS was held up as the best in the series, tied with BW2. In fact most of the time they've been mentioned lately is to bash on the other games.
The limited use TM thing is the most retarded of these, nobody playing it at release would have thought of that being a thing considering everything that wasn't a held item or key item was a consumable.
It's like that retroactive morality thing you get when people bitch about the founding fathers of the US not being beacons of liberalism. Everything is divorced from the context and modern criticisms applied. I'll wager fewer still thought to bitch about the level curve because the concept of one didn't enter most peoples conscious till Gen V with all the level 50+ evos.
That's not to say these complaints aren't meritless but I do think they are being blown out of proportion in response to the shitstorm the new games are catching.
Adding to all this remember that the general attitudes around games have soured a lot since the fuckshow of console Gen 8. Lack of new IP's, shit sequels, reboots and glorified ports have put people into a shittier frame of mind. You also have more people coming into the board who only know that state of affairs.
Side note does anyone have the old code/rules/creed whatever of /vp/ that used to accompany this picture? I lost my computer years ago and can't find it because image search engines suck.
