just started playing this and beat the first trial. holy shit this game is bad. does it ever get better? is ultra sunmoon any better?

i do like lillie, the theme and other characters though.

Well if you could somehow stand the horrible cutscenes and RABBU RIRRIE CHAN it gets a little better I guess. USUM has better totems but you sound like you'd probably be further turned off by the excess plotholes it added. If you really hate it to the point where some better bosses won't save it drop it now and don't look back

I think the Ultra version is actually worse, at least in terms of story. Characters were muddled, and the plot makes way less sense.

Gameplay-wise, the first island is less of a slog, and there's some sidequests here and there. But it's mostly the same as the original.

Eventually the cutscenes get a bit shorter but the game gets a lot easier as you get further in so the cutscenes are shorter but the content in between them is shorter and easier, making the cutscenes feel longer by comparison.

Ultra Sun/Moon is even worse. Don't consider it.
