Skyrim is probably the most well known open world game with mountains so I chose that as a comparison, but I could have chosen others. The main point of my post wasn't that the image is bad because it doesn't match the graphical prowess of Skyrim, but that there is nothing in the image that looks organically made or worth exploring. There is no evidence of a world below in fact the closer I look the more flat it becomes. What we see leaves me with no desire to explore the mountain, no trees, no paths, no awe-inspiring view of Johto. It just feels empty.
As it stands do I think this is better than current 3D Pokemon? Maybe, they look closer to what I image the older games looking in 3D than the current stuff does for sure, but I need to see more. I'm unsure if these are just mock-ups or if these is a fangame in development, either way I wish the creator well, I don't think they are awful, they just need a little more to capture the spirit of the Pokemon world.
