Actually, I'm wondering: Will this movie be as bullshit with battling as the anime? My guess is probably not quite as BS, since the anime has done some pretty ridiculous stuff

I think that was a misunderstanding.

>The flame on its tail shows the strength of its life force. If it is weak, the flame also burns weakly.

The game just says that the tail flame is just a visual indicator of their health. Water isn't supposed to actually be able to harm their flames.

Later animated material is more consistent with this.

People always got wrong the info about Charmander's line tail, is an indicative of the pokemon's health, if the pokemon dies it turns off. if won't turn off if you spread water on it.

You're overthinking it. The reason movies have such bad CGI lately is because directors overuse it. So they film the entire movie expecting like 90% of it to be CGI but when they get to the editing room they find out they only have budget for like 80% of the CGI needed, so they start to cut corners.

It's not 'if the flame goes out, it dies', it's 'if the flame goes out, it's because it's dead'.
The flame is an indicator of it's vitality, if the flame were extinguished somehow, the only thing that would happen is it would immediately flare back up as soon as it could.
