What was the logic behind not having a National Dex in Gen VII? It killed any reason for me to keep playing after I beat the Elite Four

The better question is why are you even questioning his want for it. GF has a terrible fucking habit of removing things from games as generations go on, now they decided to remove something that's been going on since Gen 3. Removing features is not a good thing.

Finding out there was no national dex after i beat the game completely took the wind out of my sails too.
I did hardly any post game at all before putting the game down.
I replaying Moon now because I had a hankering for it an hadn't touched the game in two years. I'll do what I can to complete the Alola dex now before Sword and Shield come out.

They didn't want to find a way to integrate the ~400-500 missing Pokemon into the post-game and probably also didn't want to gate the shiny charm behind such a large number.
Hopefully with gen 8 being likely to get Sinnoh remakes we'll have every Pokemon available again just like in 4 and 6.

I can understand being upset about the lack of nat dex, but there's more to the post game than filling the dex. It doesn't stop you from breeding and doing the tree.

Charm was only part of the reason, but I agree that if the national dex comes back (and I hope it does), the charm should still be behind the regional dex.
They just didn't want to have all 800 Pokemon in Gen 7.

I don't give a shit about battle facilities so my end game is finishing post game content and getting national dex done. I quit UM after I filled the Alolan dex because there was no incentive to get the Pokemon I was missing for my living dex after completing the national dex in OR. So basically no national dex lead me to putting down the game earlier than if I did have one.

They had no intention of making a non-Alola game (no, LGPE doesn't count) so they saw no way to fit all 800 Pokemon into gen 7.

There's a national dex in Pokebank and it saves people the trouble of having to transfer all of their gen 6 Pokemon to gen 7 just to get the Pokedex entries. Ideally, you should be able to sync your in-game Pokedex to the Pokebank one, but whatever.

When you catch a pokemon you can view their model and attack animations in the dex. Very useful for drawing refs. The gen 7 dex is missing nearly half the pokemon. Also like the other anons said. Got to catch em all, can't do that outside pokebank now which sucks.

They also added walking and running animations for every mon as well as models and attacks. I would have actually forgiven every shitty thing in the game if they had the national dex with that. All they had to do was add a cert for it and an extra button to switch it to. Hardly a herculean task.
