If I have to go somewhere myself or do grocery shopping myself I have it out and in the top of the cart.
I would note, however, that I'm not against using my Switch walking around, I'm just one of the idiots who has accidentally put the strap on backwards and ended up stripping the piece that kept it in place on the left Joycon. Could've switched them out with my secondary one downstairs or just bought another pair but I didn't see the point when I'd be buying more eventually anyway.
Got a new pair last week though since at this rate it doesn't seem like I'll be bothering with Pokémon ones like I thought as I'm not putting money into the series in any way anymore unless Gen 8 is packing all of the content.
So I'm sure I'll be using it around now that I'm not too paranoid that the tablet will slip off even one of the Joycon.
I have used it in public though. While grocery shopping, waiting in line, hell even at the vet just after release and ended up talking uncomfortably with the vet tech asking me if the system was good while I'm waiting to see if my fucking cat was dying or something (spoiler: he was, they just didn't tell me that and instead sold me medicine that wasn't going to do anything because they're sacks of shit).
I generally keep at least two systems on me at all times.
Right now it's usually my Poké Ball N2XL, my main red N3XL, and my main Switch. Checkout lines are basically all the play Pokémon sees at this point and even then I'd generally rather be doing something else.
