>>38195974Gen 1 and 2 are absolutely obsoleted and quite honestly terrible.
Gen 3 is pretty bad, but I can see how you can tolerate it out of nostalgia if it was your first Pokémon game growing up.
Gen 4 is where real Pokémon games begin, they still hold up very well and one can easily go back and enjoy them even today. ADHD zoomers will say it’s slow.
Gen 5 did a great job building on the formula with moves abilities, items and Pokémon. Still fun as fuck to replay. In terms of variety in games, the gen was kinda lacking as it was only unova games, but people were anticipating 3DS games and BW2 were so incredibly good that it’s forgiven.
Gen 6 did well in fixing the type chart and megas were fun at the time, but looking back I’m not sure if it was a good idea. Gen 6 probably had the best ratio of good to bad Pokémon introduced, which is commendable. ORAS were dogshit and fucking up trading and battling between them and XY was unnecessary and quite frankly incredibly dumb.
Still think it’s a bit too early to judge gen 7 holistically, but I feel like with megas and z-moves there’s kind of a piling up of gimmicks happening, we’ll see how they adress it on gen 8.
