Chestnaught is my favourite of the Kalos starters.
I laughed out loud when I saw my rival send out the door Quiladin in X.
Then I had the biggest 'careful who you make fun of in middle school' moment when I later saw Chestnaught.

Chesnaught is unironically my favorite starter throughout gens 5-7. My only gripe is that it's difficult to make a grass/fighting typing work as a tank when it has so many weakness, bulletproof helps but it was situational, it needed something as broken like greninja's protean

It's only 5'03'' anon, you can still laugh at it.

Anyway, the main problem comes from its pose for me.
Besides that, I find it ugly, and I don't think that's what they were aiming for.
The spiked-shell armor is pretty cool though.

I love Chesnaught because if it Belly Drums and then Subs into a Salac Berry it gets an instant sweep

I've used this strategy with Chespin before and based Bulletproof let it hard-wall a Venusaur who had Sleep Powder, Seeds, and Sludge Bomb to attack with and also got a couple free turns against a Ferrothorn that kept attempting Gyro Ball

Yea, Shiny Chesnaught is freaking awesome. It would have been great if it was his default. He's already my favorite starter despite /vp/s hivemind, but if his shiny was his normal color, it would be no contest.

All of the gen 6 starters look pretty bad because dseigns had degraded hard by that point. If they had came from 4 or 5 gens earlier they would have looked alright like pic related.

I'm in that weird spot where i definitely love Chesnaught, he's my favorite Kalos starter and also my second favorite grass starter after Torterra, but i also think Greninja's line is more consistent and well-made overall.
Also, his shiny is way better than it's default color.

i'll never understand how anyone can like that entire line. froakie and frogadier are by far the ugliest first and second stages of any starter. greninja has a fucked-up face, his tongue-scarf looks ridiculous, and those contrast-color blotches all over his body are the exact type of detail that got called "overdesign" when gen 4 did it. ash-greninja is even worse, it looks like a deviantart recolor. it amazes me that game freak was able to successfully shill that dumpster-fire of a line.

Best evolved Gen VI starter by a mile but suffers from a very very unfortunate 3D model, especially the idle pose. Basically the same as Aggron, Nidoking etc. only that Chesnaught never had an amazing sprite, so it is only associated with it's wonky model.
