I ONLY used my Swampert in Emerald, boxed my Totodile in HeartGold after falling in love with Mareep, actually kept my Samurott in bot White and Black 2, dropped my Greninja at Level 36 and replaced it with Goodra to rep Gen 6 on my one-mon-per-gen team, boxed my Rowlet pretty quickly in Moon, and boxed it SUPER quickly in Ultra Moon and used Tyrogue for my starter instead

When I was an edgy preteen I did boxed them to be different. I also tried to release the Pikachu from Yellow because I thought he was useless that he can't evolve.

Now I keep them.

They're just like any other Pokemon. If I like them, they stay. If I like others more, they get replaced. Choosing to or not to box them on the principle of them being a starter is fucking retarded.

this is how i feel as well, though i answered "Yes" simply because i tend to prefer 3 stage lines that change a lot so starters are more likely to stay in my team than the rest of the dex
