They really could have sprung for Bug/Psychic given how unlikely it was to find a female combee anyway. It probably wouldn't have fixed everything about it, but it would give it something unique as a niche

Would be too OP once you're above 1 Combee, also while I understand the trade off is you have 1 useless Pokemon and one buffed Pokemon I feel like that would just render Vespiquen just as unlikely to be used given you'd need to be willing to sacrifice two Pokemon slots for it even in casual play to reap the benefits of its ability.

Honestly, she should have been on the level of a pseudo-legendary. It seemed to me like they should have made her stats reflect her rarity.
Combee had Honey Gather. Give Vespiquen a variation on that which not only collects honey, but uses it to raise her defense further when hit by an attack. Call it Honey Tax or something.
Boom. Suddenly Vespi is super cool.

Should have been the Volcarona of gen 4. She was just unlucky to be added on a gen when bugs were still supposed to be weak. If she was from gen 5 she would have been much better

Make it bug/rock with a slight redesign to give it a jewelry motif. Bug/Rock is an okay defensive type and would lend some credence to its slow and bulky stats. I don't give a shit about comp but that would make it a lot more usable in-game

It's kinda weird that the Gen 4 bugs overall are as weak as they are, design wise they look stronger than they really are, Kricketune has a pretty unique design out of all the bugs, Mothim looks like it has more bulk to it than the likes of Butterfree, Beautifly or Dustox, Vespiquen seems like somewhat of a relative to Leavanny visually and Yanmega looks like a tank in its appearance.

Mega Vespiquen. Give it Parental Bond and/or something that's basically Parental Bond. have a swarm of Combee flying around her. Have Heal Order and Defense Order added to Parental Bond so Heal Order heals for 50% + 12.5% and Defense Order gives +2 to both defenses.

Looking at Vespiqueen's stats and other Sinnoh mons made me realize how underpowered the majority of the non-cross gen Sinnoh mons are.
