Did trying to find the surf guy in the safari zone in gen 1 give anyone else insane anxiety? so few steps and he was so far away...

I wouldn't say it gave my anxiety, more frustration because I had to do it 2-3 times, once because I was right there but didn't talk to him, because I was a kid and talking to NPCs was lame, second time because I got lost and ran out of steps about 5 steps from the door, the third time I just looked it up on some old game website and just went there.

It was piss easy to find even as a small kid. I was 5 or 6. Exploring games was fun. There doesn't seem to be much exploring anything in modern games.

It took me a fuckload of time to find it, I never considered that an HM could be hidden in the Safari Zone. It felt like a separate area of the game that should have no real impact on progression. Eventually a friend of mine found it and told me.

I’m not an english speaker, at that age the NPC’s would basically have to say ‘SURF IS IN THE SAFARI ZONE’ for me to fully understand it.

Didn't give me anxiety, but I remember being annoyed that (I think) I wouldn't be able to get all the items everywhere within the number of steps and would have to go in more than once. Just didn't want to pay for it twice. I think the only thing I was interested in actually catching there was Dratini.

The Safari zone in Kanto is linear as fuck without surf. Like I don't even know what to say just literally go in the one direction the game will let you go in and you'll reach the prize house.

I honestly doubt most people just straight up walked to the end to get surf but rather were running around and looking for rare shit until their steps were out.
