It's not that it's weird or that I dislike it. It's not related to how "there's more normal dogs than fire dogs". It's just that "fire-related creatures that are either canines or loosely resemble canines" is such a specific thing in Pokemon that has a higher number of members than one would expect

I’ve lived all over the UK and I barely ever see bulldogs. The most popular breeds seem to be labradors, spaniels and bull terriers. I see a lot of German shepherds about too.
I’ve never seen a corgi, not even once.

Foxes AREN'T dogs, but that doesn't mean they didn't come from the same evolution "branch", much like cats and tigers or lions. Of course they're not the same species, they just come from the same ancestor. Hell, like tomatoes are fruits, despite being generally called vegetables.
