I don't think y'all get the point. OP isn't arguing about furbait 'mons or whatnot, and neither is he saying a Blastoise or a Blaziken look like your everyday forest animal. He's implying he misses the times when pokemon had a more wide concept, like a turtle with cannons instead of a ghost archer owl or a ninja frog. It's not a war veteran turtle, it's a turtle with cannons. There's room for different personalities, environments, sceneries, much like a real animal, instead of something specific such as a ninja or a witch. Are these cool concepts? Hell fricking yes. But they're unnatural and antropomorphistic. Not necessarily furrybait, just way too human.
On order to illustrate, picture, let's say, two possibilities for a Scorbunny evolution:
One is a fast, rash, energetic rabbit who causes wildfires by running, and can throw blaze kicks around. Other is a reckless, energetic soccer player, able to light the soccer ball when it kicks.
The former can be applied to multiple different sceneries, including but not exclusively the one of a soccer player bunny. However, it can also be a runner, or a climber, or just a wild rabbit. The latter, however, is a soccer player. That's it. Sure, it can have multiple personalities, but there isnt much more to it. New starters are defined by human activities, not wide concepts. I'm not saying thats an inherently bad thing, but I wish they avoided falling into that for Sword and Shield, like they have done for the past generations.
