Honestly I love them just about the same. I know it's a cop-out answer but they both have their merits and I can't place one over the other.

I like both, but honestly I might give Alola the edge. The ice pick claws are a cool touch.
It's definitely one of the better done Alolan forms.

Kantonian Sandslash, that giant primary ice quill on Alolan Sandslash just looks weird to me. That being said Alolan Sandshrew is the better of the base forms visually.

I prefer the Alolan Sandslash's aesthetic. Kantonian Sandslash is just a generic brown pangolin with dark brown spikes and claws. Alolan Sandslash turns those spikes into icicles, it becomes a pretty chilly light blue and white, and its claws are shaped into pick axes so it can grapple onto snow and ice.

Alolan Sandslash is miles better than base one from a competitive point of view tho, it has the niche of being a fast sweeper on hail teams with a good combination of STABs and competent coverage.
Not a very common role but a very usable niche nonetheless, which is way more than can be said about a boring, slow pure ground type which is only remembered for having access to rapid spin.

I like both but I like Non-Alolan more. Design just seems sleeker and less bulky. It's one of the few ground types I don't hate.

And it's viable in UU too thanks to Slush Rush + Aurora Veil.

The combination of Aurorus + A-Sandslash got Aurora Veil teams banned in NU and RU too.

It's funny because Aurorus's typing being god tier offensively but shit tier defensively actually made it a perfect suicide lead for that brief period where Aurora Veil was allowed in those tiers.

the original was my second ever level 100 pokemon and I will always love him dearly as long as I live
but also the new Snowslash looks dashing as hell and I can't live without both of them so deal with it

I'm judging purely by the sugimori/omura art here, but I prefer Kanto Sandlash because of minor details. A-Slash's arms are attached to its quills instead of its body for some reason, and its slightly rounder appearance makes feel more like a toy than a creature. I do like A-Slash's hooked claws and icicle quills, that being said. If there's a side-by-side model comparison available and it shows A-Slash is a little more organic looking I'm sure my opinion will change.

Both are Sugimori; Sugimori did the Alolan forms in SM and the new Pokémon in USM.
But I agree attaching the arms in the icicles was a strange pic.

The normal one, mostly because I get annoyed by the alolan sandslash design. I feel like the spikes are a bit too big and the arms connects to the spikes, not the body
