>>38230204When I was much younger I definitely didn't bother with the whole Catch'em all aspect of Pokemon, I would catch my team and that was it, never even bothered with anything that wasn't mandatory or one-off.
For whatever reason in Gen 5 my mentality was to experiment with every Gen 5 Pokemon, basically I replayed BW such that I had at one stage or another used every non-legendary (and non-event) Pokemon introduced in Gen 5.
I think that experimentation resulted in my mentality today which is to catch Pokemon and freely swap out whenever's convenient, it especially helps that after Gen 6 where I was able to construct the closest thing to my dream team at the time I didn't really care about repeating that again and so am more willing to use Pokemon I hadn't before.
One of the other things that definitely impacted me was the mentality of Grass-Fire-Water, up until Gen 6 I would always use teams with members of those types, Omega Ruby was the first game where I broke that tradition by using a team consisting of Sceptile, Gyarados, Crobat, Aggron, Flygon & Banette (don't ask me why I had 4 megas on my team, I just did). I think the combination of BW's experimentation and breaking that starter trio tendency and tended to favour catching every Pokemon I can catch in that specific game.
