I say call him what you like, as long as we all know who we're talking about it's good.
I personally call him Green because I consume loads of Japanese fanart which refers to him as that and got used to it. Plus Green makes more sense to me.

The original manga had his name as green. I think since America never got green they made his name blue and it just stuck for whatever reason

The games came first. And yeah, since outside of japan the versions were red and blue, it'd be weird for a character to be called Green with no context.

Yeah. Aesthetically and thematically he is much more of a Green and she's much more of a Blue. The names don't match the characters at all if you flip them.
