I was going to say how you can't do that with Magearna since it's an artificial pokemon with a specific origin, but then I remembered they did just that with Mewtwo.

No, the movie director specified that movies 1-19 are all canon when he talked about M20 being a different universe. SM's just trying to get people more interested by dumping mythicals into the series no matter the story. Magearna being dumped in because it's Gen 7 is one of them.

M20-M21 are an AU. OS-XY, including the movies are one universe and those two movies are another universe that branched off at the Ho-oh encounter. M22 is just M1 made in 3D. Next year's movie is going to more than likely go back to the standard type of movie.
