The only thing I can imagine is that there is a special type of battle that is exclusive to Stadiums, and it can either have audience/cheering mechanic (like, do a super-effective hit and get a +1Atk/Sp.Atk bonus from the crowd for 3 turns), or there is a new type of team battle: it can be 2x2, 3x3, or even 4x4. You will act as a manager and could issue formation commands (offensive, defensive) during the battle or double-triple attacks that works as Z-Moves and can be issued by the Captain Pokémon of the team that's holding the Captain's Bandanna, an item that works similar to Z-Crystals.
