As someone who actually had fun with them, yeah.
Just do everything the game can offer. And for the love of God, pay attention during the dialogues about Team Flare, unlike the 99% of /vp/.

Playing for the first time too, about to fight Lumiose City Gym.
Its enjoyable but its honestly easy as shit, the new exp share is so fucking broken, my HM slave that I never use in fights has more level than GYM leaders, they also give you a free Kanto starter because why the fuck not, and a lucky egg, just in case you were not overleveled enough.
It would be so much better if it had a hard mode.

It's alright. The game is basically over once you get mega lucario, you just need to mash aura sphere and you win the game.
Kalos has some of the comfiest locations in pokemon but there really isn't all that much to really do.
Team Flare has one of the better bosses but the rest of the team clash HARD with him.

Worst game in the series desu. Once the novelty of "pokemon in 3d" wore off it became apparent just how boring, easy and bland it is. The only other thing it has going for it is the PSS.

Xerneas on the box is probably about the best thing about it. Honestly I sort of enjoyed bits of it, its quite a comfy region but its also quite handholdy and the difficulty is low even for pokemon. The biggest challenge I had in game was determinedly trying to use my fossil Aurorus ingame. She was utter pain to keep alive.

Yeah, it's pretty meh. The pacing is dogshit, Mega Evolution is the worst fucking gimmick added in Pokemon and the story has tons of missed potential
It was good when it came out, but now with Pokemon SM/USUM, this game is pretty much irrelevant...

holy shit I've been trying to put it in words for so long, by the time you get mega-evolution you're saying to yourself "hey I'm only at the third gym, this game is turning out to be pretty beefy," then before you know it you have all eight badges and are fighting lysandre.

Very fun, probably the most fun I’ve ever had playing Pokemon. Of course it was better a few years ago when everyone was using PSS, but customization, Amie, super training, berry growing, increasing rank in Battlw Chateau, and increasing style are all fun things to do while you progress. Turn Exp share off until after Team Flare if you only plan to use a team of 6, or keep it on if you plan on rotating Pokemon

Keep off exp share. I had it on and my vivillon was able to take sky battles against Talonflames. Otherwise it’s a good game.

Really easy and reeks of being unfinished/rushed and obvious that they scrapped a Z version for Gen 7 and stuck the rest of stuff there. Huge shame honestly but still worth a playthrough at least. Won't take long

sky battles are some of the hardest battles in any game, unless you got really lucky with Powder, status moves, and affection, this is incredibly unlikely. later game sky trainers are made to counter talonflame and vivillon, there's no way, even with the exp share, that a vivillon could beat a talonflame without hax. not to mention sky trainers use shit like aerodactyl, and Vivillon is weak to Flying. getting extremely lucky with vivillon doesn't make the games easy

If you want a good time don't use the Exp. Share, but I'm sure you've heard that from /vp/ already.
And it is still fairly easy, outside of some Sky Battles that always takes me by surprise.

I didn't fancy using the Lucario so carried on with the team I had:

I'd say this is hardly an OP team but I found the game pretty easy. Diantha is probably the easiest champion I faced but really because I was lucky with type match ups.

Oh and the story is also clearly unfinished. It is a mess. The amazing box legends are fairly peripheral to the actual plot which is a shame really as they are without doubt my favourite pair of box legends.
The AZ plot is frustratingly unfinished and most symptomatic of these games just not having the polish to have been completed on time properly before release.
