Once you beat the story in sword/shield you can time travel to catch legendary pokemon (eg: time travel to N's castle to catch Zekrom/Reshiram)

Catchable legendary pokèmon via time travel:

Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Ho-Oh, Lugia, Raikou, Suicune, Entei, Zekrom, Reshiram, Kyurem, Rayquaza, Mewtwo, Articuno, Moltres, Zapdos, Latios, Latias, dialga, palkia, giratina

When pokèmon sword & shield is released, there will be a event for meltan.

There will be no breeding in pokèmon Sword & Shield.

protip, past legendaries don't appear in the first games of the Generation as they're excluded from VGC competitions anyway. They only get added in the follow-up games as the rulesets get relaxed for the 2nd and 3rd seasons of the Generation.

But they do anon. That's why their meta is balanced around doubles play and not your shitty smogon ruleset and why all pokémon that enter VGC since XY launched require the Origin marker of the most recent Gen to be eligible for entry.
