Jotho is already ""bland"" enough as it, it is you don't need to ruin it again by explaining every little thing or forcing you to do shit that used to be optionnal and rewarding (Lugia)
I have never played Dragon Quest before as a Kid and I enjoy it because it's what pokemon used to be : a game with minimal story and exploration that forced you to go outside the path and talk to NPC
HG SS is still a game with minimal story but it won't let you explore anymore
