just today I got super autistic and started doodling a fakemon region again

I've been working on and off on designing stuff for a game. I'm not sure if I'll ever get around to coding it, so I'll share some of it.

Here is the best, most well thought out and objectively most accurate list of what should be in any game.

To compensate, all of what would normally be post-game stuff is available from finishing the main story by saving your mom from the evil team, so you still get all that good stuff, you just don't get to see the credits roll and be told you did a good job winning the game unless you beat the bullshit cheater endgame bosses.

They also all have recovery moves when trying to catch them. They are not involved in the main plot in any way, they're sidequests to get a powerful new character in your party that talks and acts cool when you send them out in battle. They always have 100% perfect IVs too, which makes them both stronger in-game and harder to weaken when you're trying to catch them. The sidequests to get them are long and convoluted, like holding your game upside down in a specific place while using a specific item levels of stupid.
>Yeah, about IVs... Hidden Power doesn't go by those anymore, it now can be set by killing an Unown of a specific type (we assign letters to all the types, killing a wild Unown of that letter sets Hidden Power to the corresponding type). Unown itself loses Levitate and gains a new ability that lets it choose the type of Hidden Power it uses every time and boosts the power of Hidden Power to 90. It also has unlimited PP for its Hidden Power. It's still a shitmon but it at least you can use it now and not feel like a complete chump.

I personally like the cooler regions more than the warmer ones, this is because I like the Ice-Type and Game Freak seems to have neglected it in recent years.

I think the region should have environments ranging from mild to freezing in temperature with varying levels of aridity and rainfall, you could have at the hottest areas of such a region some pleasant green fields that might have small windmills or old ruins that chop up the landscape making them look more unique, further on you might have large mountains whose snow-capped peaks provide a system of rivers that pour out across the region effectively dividing it into areas that would be connected by a series of bridges.

The region's environment on one side the mountain range would be dryer than the other but not outright arid for the most part, you might find some cold canyons where the river has cut deep into the rock exposing the cold earth to the surface, perhaps another area might have a number of steppes and plateaus that form a distinct series of small islands above a vast lowland below, maybe there are even people who reside on one of the plateaus with a small farmland village.

There should be a dry forest around the arid environment that contrasts with a wet forest on the opposite side, the dry forest should be similar to many of the forests in Pokemon although the trees should have a more hardy appearance with leaves being piled around their base but their trunks lacking branches until a good few meters off the ground, the environment could have it be that there are various tall grasses that sprout from the nutrition of the dead leaves and result in the surrounding area beyond the forest have unusually tall grass (somewhat akin to Route 119) that might have been cultivated in some areas by the people who live there as a grain.

The rest of the dry half of the map might have areas that reflect the lack of rain to the area with stuff like Fungi growing where trees can't due to the lack of water for the latter. Perhaps there are Pokemon who create numerous burrows resulting in a series of tunnels that pass underneath a hillside and allows the player to explore both the hill itself and the underground environment.

On the wetter side of the region you might find stuff like cool marshes and swamplands where the rivers expand greatly due to the rainfall making passage through with bridges impossible due to the boggy and unstable terrain. This would also be where the player might get the HM for Surf and alongside oceanic Routes be the area where that HM is most used. The other wet environments may have rather lush bushlands where various shrubs and trees grow forming thickets that obfuscate the path forcing the player to take alternate paths through a winding environment.

You could also have higher segments of land around these parts where waterfalls form and have various vines growing across them as the small pockets of land between the rivers wouldn't permit for trees to grow there. This could be seen as similar to North Route 210 or Unova Route 14 where banks of fog may form to obscure the player's path and hidden items.

You could also have environments closer to the mountain range itself where the cold temperatures cause the rivers to form icebergs within them and resulting in the trees taking on a somewhat similar appearance to the dry forest trees however due to the greater rain they'd be much larger and with lusher and broader leaves, the area would be snowy and you could imagine small paths being carved out of the snow by the people who frequent the area between whatever Towns the Route would connect.

Lastly the mountain range itself could be seen as having several internal environments like an underground lake, crystal tunnels and a freezing exterior.

Subsequent encounters should be frequent and off the primary path and be separate from the Gym Leaders, what I mean by this is that while there can be interactions between the Gym Leaders and the Villainous Team for the Gym Leader's plot progression there should be a separate Villainous Team Plot Progression that doesn't involve the Gym Leaders, before the Second Gym the player should also have their first battle against an Admin/Commander, a unique character of the villainous team who isn't their leader.

The Admins should all be battled between the 1st and 4th Gyms establishing each admin and their quirks, the Admins should either not specialize in a type or specialize in the same type as the Gym Leader they're introduced alongside to act as the opposite side of that type's personalities.

As addressed in Part 3, I would like to see improvements made to the Mega Evolution System, I think as it currently stands it far too much favours strong Pokemon over weak Pokemon resulting in Pokemon like Mega Mewtwo and Mega Rayquaza being absolutely broken beyond reason. As such I think Mega Evolution should be a in a tiered format where the amount of BST that is increased by the Mega Evolution is inversely proportional to the BST of the regular form of that Pokemon, basically weaker Pokemon like Sableye and Mawile get a bigger boost than stronger Pokemon like Tyranitar and Salamence.

This would in effect make many of the stronger Megas more in line with an alternate form with the main changes being their change to stat distribution and a change in ability. I think the BST should work on the premise of increasing from a 0 Point Boost at 600 BST to a 100 Point Boost at 500 BST and then decreasing at a Logarithmic scale such that a Pokemon with a BST of 400 wouldn't get a 200 Point Boost but perhaps just a 130-150 Point Boost instead.

For Regional Forms I think it would be good to make them more distinct from what they currently are, as it stands several regional forms don't change the Base Stats of the Pokemon making them not that different as a result, so I think that Regional Variants should at least in this region have Stats that differ from their home region counterparts in more dramatic ways reflecting how many of them also change their movesets, types and abilities as well.

Faster levelling; Your first pokemon will be around level 25, only things below 25 are trash rodents and babies. Main example: Levitate; pokemon that levitate should be able to do so and have their own ability too. Make Ground not very effective against flying, and all pokemon who are able to fly or levitate have the Levitate trait to make them immune to ground.

No traditional 3 starters, either make a mystery dungeon style quiz or give you a ball w/ perfect catchrate to catch your first.

No criminal gang, primary antagonists are several rival trainers who pose an actual threat and you can canonically lose to them. Maybe some big legendary that is foreshadowed as a boss fight, can't catch it properly until postgame.

Stylised 2d graphics, do what octopath did for the ffvi/snes aesthetic with gen 2 or 3 as a base.

> The Levelling Curve

One of the major issues I take with Pokemon in Gen 6 is that the levelling curve in it is atrocious, I know people throw flak (and it's deserved flak) at Gen 2 but Gen 6 is just as bad imo since instead of making more difficult bosses for the player to face they instead just bump up the level which is then counterbalanced by the Exp. Share resulting in the game being piss easy if you're on a Yellow or Green Levelling Curve (Yellow is remaining at parity with the game's level curve and Green is being slightly above the game's level curve, usually 0-50% above).

I think Johto had the right idea with the level curve being very shallow but went about it poorly due to the uneven pacing and back-loaded half of the game. In general Routes should compliment Levels, the more routes between two major bosses (the Gym Leaders) the higher the level gap should be, for later into the game this would need to be exponentially increased to account for the increased amount of experience that needs to be gained.

This btw is completely ignoring the Exp. Share which should be entirely optional and unnecessary outside of those who want to grind more easily for a Blue Level Curve (50-100% above the game's level curve). A Yellow Level Curve should be able to be maintained through the mandatory battles along the game and a Green Level Curve should be able to be maintained through the optional battles along the game.

I would need to do the calcs to figure out the exact numbers but you could imagine something like, for levels 10-20 the ratio would be 1 Route to 2 Levels, for Lv20-40 the ratio is 1R:1.6L, Lv40-60, 1R:1.2L that sort of thing.

The levelling curve I would prefer cap at 55 by the Champion, meaning that's their ace's level, the Elite Four should sequentially increase from 51-54 meaning the Gyms carry the remaining slack of Level 15-45. There should be a decent jump between 8 and E1.

You know what Pokemon sucks at doing a lot, puzzles. Fuck me they cannot nail puzzles for the life of them, there are fuck all good puzzles in the games even though they're clearly for lack of a better word trying.

I feel like Game Freak should be willing to diversify the genre of gameplay within a Pokemon game to more than just battles. Battles become redundant and boring when repeated ad nauseam for an entire game, I think they should have it be that Routes, Gyms, Dungeons and even cities and buildings should act at least a little bit like puzzles.

The first major thing that would need to change is the functionality of HMs, as it currently stands the only good HM imo is Strength, it's the only HM which puzzles can be built directly off of the others all fail to meet this criteria or in the case of Surf require additional functions to the world itself to make them more puzzle-like. Cut, Rock Climb and Strength all strike me as HMs that could easily work for puzzles and while Surf might seem like the odd one out, I think if we took its name more literally and that the player could actually create a surf wave that altered their vertical height on the water with enough speed would allow for interesting puzzles. Fly should just do what Soaring did in Gen 6 and be way late game as well since Fly effectively declares that Exploration is now a zero effort task. Waterfall I think should remain the only spectacle HM, i.e. the function would be the awe itself, that being said I think Waterfall should be used sparingly and only for the most impressive looking of waterfalls.

Getting back to puzzles, puzzles in the overworld should involve riddles, switches, levers, buttons and all sorts of other mechanical properties, they should be things that the player can adjust through sub-screens that would pop-up where appropriate (say you've got a riddle written in braille on a stone table, the sub-screen would show that).

The other aspect would be looking at how the gyms of the past handled their elemental theming into puzzles and build off those, finding methods where the Gear shifting of Sunyshore or the Electrical Currents of Mauville, the steam jets of Lavaridge, the teleportation of Saffron, the water levels of Pastoria, the moving lily pads of Humilau, etc. These sorts of things should be expanded upon making more unique and interesting puzzles where other requirements and effects may be added to give them various functionality.

For Routes and Dungeons this sort of stuff should be more natural, perhaps the player needs to use cut to chop of the branches on a fallen log and then use strength to roll the log into a ditch so the player can walk across it, maybe in a snowy environment the player needs to use some sort of Fire-Type HM to melt some snow revealing hidden Rock Climb surfaces but also needs to find the correct path that leads to where they can use the Fire-Type HM.

One thing I would like to see with the HMs as well is that the HM function is not tied to one specific move, having numerous moves not just Cut be able to slash through thorny bushes or not just Strength be able to push large boulders I think would work as a good way of making HMs seem less tedious since that way many Pokemon could utilize HM abilities without needing a very specific move. This could even extend to the Pokemon themselves, taking the only interesting aspect of the Pokeride you could have some Pokemon be innately capable of using a HM function even if they don't have any moves that could use that function, example being that all oceanic Pokemon are able to use Surf or Pokemon like Scyther and Zangoose can always use Cut or Machamp and Conkeldurr use Strength or Milotic use Waterfall, etc.

Something I really would love to see make a return are Boss Pokemon, not just on Gym Leaders like how you had Onix, Alakazam, Arcanine & Rhydon in Gen 1 or Scyther, Miltank, Steelix & Kingdra in Gen 2 but also the overworld Pokemon like Gen 1's Snorlax & Marowak and Gen 2's Sudowoodo. I think including these sorts of Pokemon and hell even making them have evolutionary relatives would help give the world the player explores more of an rpg-sense to it, I think while early on such Pokemon could exemplify extremes of Gen 1 Pokemon design simply through having tough typing (like Steel/Fairy) and high stats you could progress through each generation with Pokemon who're indicative of the features each generation added. a Gen 2 style Boss Pokemon might use a Held Item to give itself a massive boost like Eviolite or some variation of the Thick Club. The Gen 3 one might be a pair of Pokemon in a Double Boss Battle and might also have abilities that boost those Pokemon making them extremely effective in tandem but much weaker when not paired together. Gen 4 might give us a Pokemon that is able to alter its form to allow it to shift its attack and defences from physical to special allowing it to effectively use moves from both sides of the categories against the player. A Gen 5 one might utilize the Triple or Rotation Battle or could be an extremely effective Pokemon under a certain weather, if that weather always occurs in the location where you face that Boss Pokemon then it would be permanent weather in that specific situation. The Gen 6 and 7 might be combined into one boss that like the Tapus is able to activate a Terrain upon being sent out although wouldn't be as powerful as the equivalent Tapu, perhaps the benefits it gains from that Terrain come from the moves it can use.

It would also I think help make each character more distinct if they had a remarkably tough Pokemon that the player had to learn to overcome cementing that association.

People are sick of Kanto, but before LGPE came out I really wanted a full re-imagining of Kanto that lets you go to Johto, a reverse HGSS. It'd have a dex of 351 Pokémon, including the first 251 plus plenty of Pokémon and evolutions from gens 3-7, and a few totally new 'mons and unused betas (like Crocky).

The choice of main characters and rival would look very similar to Red/Blue/Green/Yellow (manga), with you being able to choose any two from the four; depending on your choice, the game will be slightly different but your rival will always become the Champion, with the two unselected trainers having minor character roles.

The basic plot wouldn't change, except for the addition of some stuff regarding Mewtwo and Pokémon genetic experimentation, but there'd be a bit more characterization to the NPCs.

It'd have the modern type chart (with a few more tweaks), Secret Bases, Pokémon Refresh, and more double battles.

The game corner is changed into 'The Arcade'. No spending coins on random chance, but minigames where you can get prizes for reaching a certain score. The Pokéathlon and some type of Battle Frontier would also be in Johto.

No megas, except for Mewtwo, but those are now two forms which represent its unstable DNA, as well as allowing it to pose a decent threat as a boss, like Ultra Necrozma. After defeating it, it flees the laboratory on Cinnabar Island, destroying it in the process, and you can catch it in the postgame.

Secret techniques for Pokémon, instead of HMs.

Exp. Share is nerfed and there's a challenge setting which steepens the level curve, adds Pokémon to some trainer teams, and improves the AI.

Azalea's gym leader is Bugsy's previously-unintroduced older sister.
Karen is the 8th gym leader of Goldenrod City.
Younger Jasmine with pigtails, trains Electric-types, doesn't know what type she wants to settle on yet
Will is a traveling magician with a bonus battle.
There are Gen 3-7 trainer bonus battles as well.

After you get 16 badges, you can rematch the Elite 4 with tougher teams; then you can access the Sevii Islands, though they're heavily redesigned. A number of other Pokémon can be found there, including various regional/alternate forms.

After that there'd be the sequel game that roughly adapts Gen 2 in a similar fashion, with the choice of trainers being between Gold/Silver/Kris/Lyra. Lorelei, Agatha, and characters from the prequel game would be bonus battles, with Agatha heavily implied to be a ghost. Also, Pokémon Tower would not be converted into a radio tower.

Either that, or later on you'd find out that her family runs the Moo Moo Farm and you can have an optional off-the-clock battle with her featuring her Miltank.

My game would focus heavily on the environment and the Pokemon world as a living and dynamic entity, so:
