Lots of nostalgiafags say they love them but they were still objectively inferior versions of Gen 1 starters because their stats and typings were distributed worse. The anime had them constantly upstaged by Bulbasaur, Charizard, and Squirtle. Even their evolved forms barely showed up for more than a minute with the exception of that Raikou special.
