Europe has strict laws about gambling laws in kid's games, so the localization of DP prior removed the Game Corner completely. HGSS had Game Freak at least meeting it halfway with Voltorb Flip, but the gambling has never been really fixed since.

I actually didn't know this, I'm European myself.
So if I played the US versions of DP & HGSS I'd get a small amount of fresh content or was it removed for them too?

It sure is. I think I only reached level 6 once in the amount of tries it took me to get the ~2k coins.
Usually failed around the 4th level and dropped back to 1 after a few tries.

NA Platinum was the last game released outside of Japan to have the game corner still in it. Japanese versions of HG/SS have the slots still in it (they're smeargle themed) but all the versions released outside of japan have the game corner replaced with voltorb flip instead. Starting in Gen 5 they removed the game corner entirely from all versions because it was easier to just do that instead of having to change it for each region.
