>>38256313Vaniville is honestly a very interesting and unique layout, although it has fuck all to offer overall I do like that it feels very much like a villa rather than just some random cobble of houses in a space surrounded by Trees, if we got another starting town that built on this idea of the connection of the people there I think would make for perhaps the best starting town, it's really Vaniville's size that holds it back.
I dunno whether you count the player's house or Iki Town as the starting location, if we're going by towns, Iki Town is fine, it has good theming although doesn't really strike as a place where things begin it feels more like Oldale or Sandgem, a place you visit after you've already had a bit of experience. If we're going by the player's house, it's a massive fucking waste, I hate the concept of having the player's home isolated from others, it makes it feel like they're screaming to players that the player is special right from the get go, at least with the other locations there's the caveat that there are other people from your hometown who could go on journeys.
Given that Gen 8 seems to be following in Gen 7's footsteps I'll probably hate its player house and be underwhelmed by its starting town, hopefully it proves me wrong but I don't have high hopes that it can.
