>>38266896KANTOOOOOOO fans turned their noses up at BW because there were no Pikachus and Charizards and Zubats and Tentacools, and thus the games sold poorly. XY was literally GameFreak's response to that sales loss in an attempt to win back their established fanbase, and that's why they have this current mindset of "we know what our hardcore fans want, and it's not difficulty settings or cutscene skipping or innovation, but MORE NOSTALGIA PANDERING! REMEMBER CHARIZARD YOU GUYS?"
Like I said, sure a lot of gen 5's Pokemon followed in the footsteps of gen 1 Pokemon, but they're far from being carbon copies in most cases. Swoobat is nothing like Golbat, Excadrill is nothing like Dugtrio, Musharna is nothing like Hypno, Seismitoad is nothing like Poliwrath, and so on. And that doesn't even account for all the completely original, counterpart-less concepts like Galvantula, Golurk, and Bisharp, just to name a few. Gen 5 was the last time anything really felt fresh because you could step out onto a new route and see 3 completely new Pokemon every time, instead of "hey it's Grimer again but he's green" with a 5% chance of finding any actual new Pokemon on any given route.
