I have to admit in the first trailers i thought charizard looked way too messy, with too many textures; but the way they made him puff out his chest made him look like an actual believable reptile.

No one, because people have generally held onto terrible ideas when it comes to adapting video games into movies. There are still people out there who think that this should have been an adaptation of the main games with the Pokémon League thrown in despite how unfilmable it would be to throw in 8 repetitive battles into a movie, even a trilogy, that would really serve little to no purpose in advancing the plot with the evil team that they would also want in the movie. Have you ever seen concept art for a big-budget movie before? They pretty much take a bunch of artists with portfolios that relate to the IP, throw as many wild ideas at the wall and see what sticks, then reform that into something recognizable.
Arvalis' art isn't the best or most accurate, but it does have some creative ideas. The closest thing we'll see in the film to his stuff is probably Kingler's eyes being compound eyes with a similar shape to his sprite.

Never played Colosseum, but isn't it as battle-focused as the mainline games? If so, it would probably have similar problems in the process of adaptation.

Mystery Dungeon sounds nice, but strikes me as too childish, and wouldn't have much appeal in the greater public, i guess. An anime series would be more suitable.

In the end, DP 2 is all i can think of. Maybe some spinoff from there, like something about Looker (if they decide to give him a cameo on DP, for example).

It is kind of, but Colosseum is also a straightforward story like Detective Pikachu is. The only thing they would need is to do that's particularl show off the Snatch gimmick a few times.

By getting creative. Keep a few key components such as a Pokedex, an evil team and starters evolving to their final stage, but have the protagonist do something other than fighting 8 gym leaders and an elite four. Make the narrative follow a structured "hero's journey" template, using the region of Pokemon as the "world of the unfamiliar".

Personally, I'd love to see a movie about Johto that gives us a look at a live action Ho-oh, Lugia or legendary dogs.

There can still be a Pokémon journey, it just doesn't have to go down the same route as the mainline games. For a Pokémon game to be adapted to film, it's more important that the overall experience of the game is captured in film form, rather than the journey being replicated exactly.
