Did you ever stop to appreciate how creative the anime would get with the Pokémon Center designs?

They are all so unique and some feature pretty experimental avant-garde architecture. I'll dump the few images that I have.

This is the Pokémon Center from Valencia Island, home of Professor Ivy.

It's the first time we see a Joy from the Orange Islands, with their light-green aprons and slightly tanned skin. This one is totally unique on the inside too.

The Orange Island actually has some beautiful cities/towns and Pokémon Centers. Maybe one day I'll find a collection of images of the buildings, or screen grab them all myself.

On the Porygon one, I really like the clean shiny open space around the main building. Also the balloon looking structure on top is actually usable living space (see the windows).

Pic related is Cerulean. Relatively tame, but they can't all be crazy looking right?

And it's got a beautiful mix of modern and old style. It must be really cool going through the glass structure, seeing where the old house "ends" and the new area begins.

To get a Pokémon Trainer ID/license, you take a test; there's a fee. Those rich kids who go to Pokémon Academy so they can skip the badge collecting? Run by the Pokémon League Association and high tuition. District, regional, and national government subsidies. Private companies like Silph and Devon certainly cut massive donations to keep the system going so they can sell more products to trainers. This one from a city in the Orange Islands is one of my favorites.

It's not too impressive, but I like how it has an urban decay vibe that contrasts with its futurist/modernist/minimalist architecture. It's like the utopian vision of the architect crashed with reality.

You can tell that this looked amazing in a flattering photograph back in the day when it was new, but nowadays it just exists in the mundane real world.

I kinda hate this one. a) It's a ripoff of Viridian's, and it's still inferior/uglier b) it's supposed to be New Bark Town but they made it look like a modern mid-sized city? We all know New Bark is a tiny village somewhat isolated in Johto, nothing like this.

Mechanical engineering major here. This thread brings back memories of being in middle school when I dreamed of being an architect. I've got some civil engineering friends who would get a kick out of this stuff, to the extent of drawing up actual plans for functioning versions of these centers. Keep it up, OP!

Yeah I vaguely get the DBZ vibes too. It looks very late 80s anime, and for all we know whoever drew this Pokémon Center was bringing his past experience in anime to the series. Very unique. Even among Original Series Pokemon Centers it stands out.

Okay so pic related is from one of my least favorite episodes of the Orange League, which is the one with the Magnemite rancher (?!)

This Pokémon Center is revealed to use Magnemite as backup generators. Not much else to say.

This Johto Center if I recall correctly uses Jynx instead of Chansey! Which is why the episode is banned, lol.

Anyway, it looks a big out of place here in the ice. It's not a comfy cabin like other isolated PCs, instead it looks like it could be in a big city. But you can tell it's smaller than the big city ones, even though its design is trying to convey otherwise. It's masquerading as one of the big-boys.

This is one of the few predominately green PCs that I can recall. This particular green reminds me of... nuclear something? Like a Soviet model? Well, it definitely reminds of the control panel of a Tupolev airplane! Another great showcase of creativity with the Pokemon Centers in the show, in any case.

Ok, I only have 2 more to go sadly but I'm saving my favorite one for last!

Yeah, to be frank I sort of agree. I enjoyed XY but it plain and simply lacks the old aesthetics that I love so much. Fisher price, indeed.

Anyway, this one is from the Nidoran Romeo and Juliet ep. This episode completely nukes your suspension of disbelief, and that whole town makes zero sense... even for Pokémon standards it's *insane*. But it's one of my favorite episodes ever nonetheless, and you just have to accept that they said fuck it, let's do Romeo & Juliet out of nowhere.

But anyway. The Pokémon Center here matches the "early Georgian style and Tudorbethan style construction" (according to Bulbapedia) of the town. I specially like the novel sign (kinda looks like the Nintendo logo, but not really) and of course that cozy yellowish lighting upon it.

Finally the Viridian Center is my favorite.

Most Centers are pretty in their own ways, creative, bold, comfy, imposing, cold, warm, you name it. The Viridian Center is simply *elegant*.

Look at the glow leaking from below the red ball, and the lobby lights shining beneath the canopy.

The inside also features the iconic painting of the legendary birds, which at the time were so mysterious. It's also basically the setting in which the entire episode takes place which almost never happens in the anime. It's so good, it has its own episode!

Oh and of course, this is the very first Pokémon Center shown in the series and it set an amazing precedent for what was to come. AND it was destroyed and rebuilt, how cool is that.
