The only thing that could be further expanded upon with them is more signature Z-moves for certain Pokemon, but beyond that the main focus are the regular crystals, which already do the job of boosting every regular move into super moves, regardless if they're attack, defense, buffs, rebuffs, etc.
Basically, unlike Megas which need an indefinite amount of attention due to their nature of affecting individual Pokemon, Z-moves don't require more focus for the time being due to how admittedly flexible they are. Every Pokemon can use one, and every move is affected. In this sense, Z-moves are very much a "complete" feature.
