Thinking about starting up Platinum sometime this month. I'm picking Turtwig as my starter. What Pokémon I can add to my team?

the best thing Platinum did was expand the Sinnohdex to include the evolutions of past mons. I used Gallade and Gliscor in my last playthrough and they kicked ass

Assuming you dont want the same type twice these are good choice

I've been told that my Sinnoh team is incredibly generic and unoriginal which is a shame since it's my original team from 2007 that I made without any outside influence, so my guess would be to mostly avoid these mons.

Bibarel. You're going to want an HM Slave for Cut, Rock Smash, Strength, and Rock Climb.
A physical Flying type to handle Fly and Defog. Honchkrow is a neat pick, especially since it can go mixed with Heat Wave.
A special Water type to handle Surf and a physical Water type to handle Waterfall. Or a single mixed Water type if you don't mind coughing up two moveslots. Personally, I like Gastrodon or Octillery.
That leaves one or two team members left. Doesn't matter who they are, just have a Fighting type move somewhere in there. Gallade is a personal favorite with Drain Punch.

You'll have a lot more fun if you don't have to run to/fro a PC all the time. The 8 HM regions can be particularly annoying if you don't mull this kind of thing over.

Porygon-Z for sure I always use in plat (or Magnezone if you can't trade). Also an ice type like Weavile, Mamoswine, or Froslass.

Houndoom is great too- Platinum is one of the few games where you can get it before postgame.

A lot of the cross gen evolutions are actually easily obtained since you get all the items throughout the game instead of having half of them be shoved into the postgame's battle place. Things like Dusknoir, Rhyperior, and Gallade are never as easy to get as they are here. Togekiss is pretty fun too if you get Serene Grace, but requires a fair amount of investment. Gallade is really good too but you'll want to go ahead slightly to get a hidden Dawn Stone early or you're stuck with Kirlia for a while.

I was replaying Diamond and it's overall speed is worse than I remembered. Makes Platinum look like a day at the races.
