>>38269275The level curve is fine, the gyms are fucked, a Level 10-40/50 Level Curve is honestly the best a Pokemon game could have since it means Game Freak can't just cheese difficulty like they did in Gen 6. Plus it means stuff like the Exp. Share isn't as important.
I assume by the Level Curve though you mean the disparity between Trainers and Gym Leader's levels and the botched nature of the Gym Levels themselves, to which, I completely agree. Trainers across Johto should've had a sharper level curve that at least stayed within the Amber Line of levelling (that's 0-25% below the Boss) with the idea being that you approach the level of the Gym Leader as you get closer;
- Falkner - Lv1-Lv11 (Lv9-Lv13)
- Bugsy - Lv13-15 (Lv15-Lv17)
- Whitney - Lv14-17 (Lv17-Lv19)
- Morty - Lv19-Lv22 (Lv21-Lv25)
- Chuck - Lv23-Lv27 (Lv29-Lv31)
- Jasmine - Lv26-Lv30 (Lv30-Lv34)
- Pryce - Lv26-Lv31 (Lv30-Lv35)
- Jasmine - Lv31-Lv36 (Lv38-Lv41)
That way the Trainers get close to the Gym Leaders levels but there's still a distinction between the Gym Leaders ace and the surrounding trainers in terms of power. Also yeah I have no idea why they thought keeping Pryce weaker than Jasmine was a good idea, honestly I think when they did HGSS they should've made the curve go; Lv14 -> Lv18 -> Lv21 -> Lv25 -> Lv28 -> Lv32 -> Lv35 -> Lv40 --> (Lv43 -> Lv44 -> Lv46 -> Lv47) -> Lv50
That way there's a constant increase but you have two important things, the eighth Gym Leader is noticeably stronger than the seventh and the league is noticeably stronger than the eighth gym leader, this would help establish why the eighth gym leader is eighth beyond stupid plot reasons and show that the league is noticeably more powerful than even the gym leaders.
