Source? I know Ishihara (TPC CEO) thought it would fail and Masuda said they were concerned about how well Switch would sell (they were already making Let's Go before the Switch launched) but can't find reports of Game Freak thinking it would fail outright (remember, Ishihara also thought Pokémon was dead as a franchise after Gen II). Hell, not only were they among the first of the first shipment of Switch dev kits, they also confirmed they were looking to bring Bank to Switch shortly after it.

Yeah it had nothing to do with the Switch itself and everything to do with creating a set of 3D models that everything across the brand could use and that GF could use for years to come. Literally every instance of 3D Pokemon since Pokedex 3D has been the same model except Detective Pikachu. Even the Mewtwo movie is apparently just reskinning the same mesh.

Actually without lines, the 3DS models look neat. Check out the Lineless mod for XY/SM/USUM. There's also a texture mod out there that makes the colors a bit less washed and it looks so good

Wasn’t more the particle effects that caused problems for the 3DS? Moltres has a middling polycount but makes the framerate take the most noticeable nosedive.

Dude, it lagged like a motherfucker in x/y with non-kalos introduced pokémon in horde battles on route fucking 3. Thing just couldn't handle that many pokés on-screen at once, that's why Alola is strictly doubles or 2v1, the newer pokés would kill the system if they tried to put 5 or 6 up.

It's also one of the many many reasons the games chugged on the system and why we didn't get much actual stereoscopic 3D.
